NVTV – Al Cross (Hidatsa), Pat Brien (Chippewa) and Renita Pinkham Brien (Nez Perce)

Cihuapilli Rose Amador and Sundust Martinez interviews Al Cross (Hidatsa), Pat Brien (Chippewa) and Renita Pinkham Brien (Nez Perce) of the ‘History of Relocation‘ on
Native Voice TV.

Al Cross moderates the discussion of his guests Pat and Renita Brien about their experiences of the ‘Relocation of the 1950’s of Native Americans’. Cross gives a good history of what the real name was of Relocation (Emplyment Assistance Program) and how Relocation was a US Government stance for Regressive as the Termination Act.

The Relocation Act was due to a very ‘Harsh’ winters in the southwest in the Navajo country in 1947 and 1948. Los Angeles, Chicago and Denver were the first cities for relocation. Relocation was voluntary and economic assistance was made to find jobs in these cities but without any training. Once our Native people found a job
the Government had done its job.

By early 1950’s new cities were added and close to over 100,000 native people had moved from their reservations to any of these cities; Those mentioned above including San Francisco, Oakland, San Jose and Los Angeles.

Briens’ couple explain their experiences of this Relocation and this show is a must see.
